The Gauteng Sports Confederation wishes to issue its condolences to the family and friends of respected sports administrator Goliath Munro, the President of the Western Cape Provincial Sport Confederation (WCPSC), who passed away in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
“South Africa and the Western Cape have lost one of the best administrators who worked tirelessly to develop sport in his province and in the process his energy reverberated far outside the provincial borders,” said Gauteng Sports Confederation president Barry Hendricks. “He lived for sport and his legacy will long live on in the excellent sporting structures in the province. One of the key elements of his character was his unflinching commitment to good governance and to follow proper constitutional and legal processes, even when the WCPSC itself faced adversity.”
Mr Munro made his mark in administration in athletics at regional, district and national levels. His commitment to good governance in sport and life was well known and respected. He has been involved in the sport council movement since inception and at all levels of sport administration. Mr Munro has been the president of the Western Cape Provincial Sports Confederation for the last five years and also served with distinction on the National Lotteries Board. The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport bestowed the honour of Sport Legend on Mr Munro in 2010.
“Our thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of Mr Munro and I would like to express our profound sadness and heartfelt condolences to all who are dealing with his loss,” said Hendricks. His dedication to the betterment of conditions for all sports persons will be sorely missed.”
